Before changing versions, importing a factory or altering mods, stop the server normally and create a completed panel backup. Keep the selected save ZIP, mod configuration and server settings together so you can reproduce the working setup.
Know which settings the panel manages
Our template uses data/server-settings.json. Exposed Startup fields manage the server name, description, listing account details, autosave interval and autosave slots. Use those fields for the corresponding settings, since mapped file values are refreshed on startup. Keep account tokens private and leave assigned network ports unchanged.
Save Name selects saves/<name>.zip. Changing it can create a new factory if the requested file is missing. Map-generation settings are not a safe way to transform an existing factory. For an imported save, preserve the original archive and confirm its game version, mods and expansion requirements before starting it.
Save and back up deliberately
An in-game administrator can request /server-save, then wait for completion before maintenance. This command is documented in the official console reference. Use the panel's normal Stop control for shutdown. Local autosave slots and the panel's offsite backup slots are different: more local autosaves do not increase your offsite allowance or establish an offsite schedule.
Investigate slow simulation
Note whether the problem is slow simulation, connection delay or client graphics performance. Record player count, factory size, recent mods and the panel's CPU/memory readings. A complex factory can need investigation beyond adding RAM. If progress pauses with nobody connected, first check whether the server uses Factorio's normal empty-server pause behavior; see the multiplayer guide.
Send Game Servers support the timing and a short relevant log excerpt. Avoid deleting autosaves, issuing scripting commands copied from a guide or changing mod sets on the only copy of your factory while diagnosing it.
