In Sandstorm, a map and a scenario work together. The map selects the environment; the scenario selects a supported game-mode setup for that environment. A mismatched pair can prevent a useful match from loading.
Change the map or settings
- Open your server in the Game Server Control Panel, arrange downtime, and create a backup of the current configuration.
- Stop the server cleanly. In Startup, change Default Map and Scenario Name as a matching pair. Keep the previous values so you can undo the change.
- Change the public server name in Startup. Avoid adding a second hostname or conflicting map parameters through Additional Switches.
- For advanced gameplay settings, the Linux service uses
Insurgency/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini. Change only documented settings for the mode you are running. The official Server Admin Guide is the reference for scenario and configuration syntax. - Save, start, and join the server. Check the actual mode and map before adding further changes.
Common problems
- Stuck loading or no playable match: restore the last working map/scenario pair and inspect the first relevant Console error.
- Browser listing missing: try the assigned IP and game port directly. Record whether that works; a discovery problem and a connection problem need different investigation.
- Problems after a game update: check that the client and server are compatible, then ask us to review the server update path.
- Problems after mods or mutators: return to the last working configuration and provide the exact additions to support.
Keep allocated ports unchanged. Do not use Reinstall as a first response to an error, or enable unfamiliar launch switches to bypass it. For assistance, open a support ticket and choose Game Servers with a short, redacted log excerpt and the time of the failed join.
